These drugs act by causing relaxation of the muscle in the walls of arteries increasing the flow of blood. They are used in the treatment of angina and high blood pressure and some help to control heart rhythm disturbances. The possible side effects include facial flushing, ankle swelling and headache. Diltiazim and Verapamil are also used in the treatment of some heart rhythm disturbances.
